Who We Are

Sickle Cell Cohort Research (SCORE) Foundation is a registered charity, a collaborative effort between scientists, researchers and stakeholders in sickle cell disease.

SCORE was finally constituted as a result of our collaboration on a European community-United National Development (EC_UNDP) grant- N-253 Sickle Cell cohort in Abuja with partners- Zankli Medical Centre, Abuja, Fantsuam Foundation Kafanchan, London Focus Sickle Cell Africa, Michigan State University and Guy’s and St Thomas NHS Trust, London. SCORE was registered in September 2013 with CAC Federal Government of Nigeria: CAC/IT/NO 64029.

Our Objectives

  • To support the establishment of Newborn and Early Infant SCD screening and ensure effective linkage with clinical management centres. 
  • Working in collaboration with individuals, state governments and civil societies to achieve appropriate manpower development, skills transfer towards better survival and quality of life for patients.

Activities Include

  • Conferences and Seminars in order to bring together professionals, researchers, patients and the community for networking, exchange of ideas and research findings capable of transforming services. 
  • Capacity building in laboratory and clinical skills for the diagnosis and management of sickle cell
  • To provide a platform that will enhance north-south, south-south and national collaborations for research and scientific presentations
  • To work with NGOs, civil societies and individuals with shared objectives for improving the wellbeing of children towards better patient outcomes
